Countryside

bluebellsIf it ever features on the national conscience, South Yorkshire is almost always shown as an industrial wasteland of closed down steel mills and coal mines (witness films such as “The Full Monty” and “Brassed Off”). First time visitors are often surprised to find that there is actually a lot of very fine open countryside in the county, and the area around Wentworth is no exception.

footpathRotherham Council do a good job of promoting walking in the area, and the various footpaths are well signposted. Many of the footpaths were closed during the recent Foot & Mouth crisis, but they are now starting to reopen. Leaflets of local walks are available from Rotherham Central Library and copies can sometimes be found in local pubs and shops. Our map shows some of the rights of way centerd on the village.

Whatever the time of year, a walk around the Wentworth area is very rewarding.
