Cricket Club

MJ, EL attended meeting to report on status of Cricket Club.  A sponsorship drive has raised significant funds for the club which has enabled the club to continue however there have recent setbacks.

The existing concrete shed has been broken into and a new mower stolen.  MJ contacted the Estate suggesting a 20ft steel container - Estate suggested locating this behind the Rockingham Arms with dark green paint or wooden cladding but Cricket Club could not afford expense of this (est. £1,000 cost) and also do not think that location is workable due to waterlogged condition of ground.

NC pointed out that there is an established use for the existing concrete garage so there may be an argument for maintaining the store in the existing location.

It was agreed that the Cricket Club had done a good job raising funds and that the WVCA should support them in this.

On a related issue NC raised issue of letter from Parish Council.  Clearing of undergrowth has revealed dump of rubbish around the concrete garage and should be cleared.  Score hut is in a bad condition and should be repaired or removed.  Cricket Club said that their inspection had revealed that the score hut needed to be brought up to serviceable condition in the short term.

Agreed that in principle we would support Cricket Club by donation of £1,000 towards additional storage.  EL to ask Estate to see if scrap can be removed.

It was suggested that EL/MJ could speak to the RMBC planning office to check feasibility prior to speaking to Estate/Parish Council to seek their approval.  WVCA to write to Estate/Parish Council to express our support for Cricket Club's proposals.

EL pointed out that Cricket Club had spent money painting the pavilion externally and internally.  Agreed that WVCA would cover material costs on provision of receipts by the Cricket Club.

EL raised issue of Clayfields Lane exit door (Home Team dressing room) - gas safety people would not give us a certificate due to position of door and possibility of fumes re-entering building.  Ideally needs boiler moving which could be done in 2-3 years as this needs replacing.

Also external door in kitchen is blocked by kitchen units.

Matters Arising

Presentation for RI.  His last service is on Sunday 21st May and will include a presentation from the Estate so we could add our presentation and thanks to this.

JD cannot find any water rates bills for the pavilion.  SC to check with DP to see if water rates payment for

Village Day

Previously proposed June/July dates not feasible due to lack of time.  If it were to go ahead we would have to wait until September if at all.  Would be a shame to lose the Sports Day event.  Could just have Sports Day (with possible beer tent/barbecue from Rockingham Arms).

Suggested arranging a date to coincide with Cricket Club home fixture, 29th July 2006.  FT to ask Vickie/Debbie if they are willing to sort out Sports Day (WVCA can provide financial support if they can provide receipts).  Need to speak to Rockingham Arms to sort out beer tent.

Promotion as a “Village Sports Day”.

NC suggested that instead of having an event we could arrange a WVCA village seaside trip.

Treasurer's Report

Transfer of £92.01 to deposit account was due to mistake by bank due to miscalculated interest - now rectified.

05/51

AOB

DP has arranged potential tutor for proposed Art Class.  To take place Thursday afternoons from September.  Suggested take payments for whole course in advance.  Agreed that WVCA would support this.

FT has had an enquiry about starting a Tai Chi class - 1 hour, 1 day a week.  No objection in principle.  Not sure whether to classify as Arts rate or business.  Agreed that charge would be not more than £10 per hour.
