Wentworth Partnership
Meeting
6th September
2005
Held at Fitzwilliam (Wentworth) Estates, Estate Office at 5.30 pm
In attendance:
N Chaplin Chair - The Wentworth Village Community Association
D Hunton Chair - Wentworth Parish Council
A Barber-Lomax Agent - Fitzwilliam (Wentworth) Estates
The Wentworth Partnership has been inactive for sometime and it is hoped that this meeting might initiate renewed commitment to meet on a regular basis. Matters considered included the following:
1. Village Amenity Issues:
a. Street
Lights
General acceptance that the inconsistency of design and poor modern replacement needs addressing. ABL due to meet shortly with members of Streetpride to consider.
b. Streetpride
Banners
General acceptance that these are inappropriate and objection to continually be raised where possible.
c. Park
Entrance Area
The Estate is finalising proposals for altering the appearance of the principal Park entrance area to exclude parking (alternative provision to be made) and re-site the ice-cream van.
d. Village
Car Park
Permits to be made available to all parishioners to enable free use of the car park.
e. Public
Houses
Objections have been raised by the Estate and various residents to the Rockingham Arms proposals for a banner sign and extended opening hours.
f.
Cricket Pavilion
This structure belongs to the Parish Council and is effectively leased to the Community Association. The principle user is the Cricket Club. A recent structural survey undertaken on behalf of the Parish Council has indicated no major problems but a requirement for external maintenance (gutters and spouts etc) and internal refurbishment. The Community Association will seek to initiate improvements to the building and wider use following consultation with villagers concerning possible alternative uses (toddler group during the summer and more sports use).
2. Wentworth In Focus Newsletter
This newsletter to be resurrected by the Community Association and likely circulated on a quarterly basis.
3. Community
Association Support
Discussion took place concerning the apparent lack of involvement from within the Village for Community Association activities leaving too much to be done by too few. The age profile of existing and incoming residents was considered as well as reasons for why involvement may be lacking. Generally agreed that more needs to be done to encourage involvement and communication in its various forms (Village Newsletter, in person, via email, Village notice board). The Estate to try and establish a database of email addresses and will ask if details can be forwarded to the Community Association. Also, if the Community Association wish to produce a promotional leaflet that this can be provided to all new Village residents.
4. Next
Meeting
Agreed that another meeting would be important at which time future structure of the partnership could be considered in more detail. To be held on 8th November 2005 from 6.00 pm at the Estate office. Lindy Stevenson to be invited to attend.
